Walter Julius Joba, 99, a long time Stillwater resident passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on January 30, 2013.
Born in Passaic, NJ on July 20, 1913 to Anthony and Sophia Czymonkiewitz - Dziuba, he spent his early years in Clifton.
As a young man he joined the Merchant Marines and first worked on cruise ships and later on troop ships throughout World War II. After the war he moved to Stillwater where he owned and operated a dairy farm for several years. He worked in machine repair for the General Electric company retiring from the Waterford plant in 1978. Walter was a member of the Stillwater United Church and was past president of the Arvin Hart Fire Department. He enjoyed swimming, model building and working on cars.
He was predeceased by his wives, the former Mildred Raymond of New Haven, CT and Catherine Moseman Bradley of Saratoga Springs, one brother, Edward Dziuba and one sister, Viola Joba. He is survived by one son, Walter Joba (Mary-Elizabeth) of Fleming Island, FL, one daughter Patricia Davis (James) of New Britain, PA, four grandchildren, Nancy Tabor, Amy Osterman, Christina Davis and Timothy Davis and five great grandchildren, Justin Tabor, Madeline and Abigail Osterman, and Julius and Lucy Davis.
Relatives and friends may call from 10-12pm on April 13, 2013 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 729 Hudson Avenue Stillwater. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Stillwater Union Cemetery.
