Melrose- Rensselaer County

Sheila Dianne Simmons of Melrose, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at her residence with her loving family at her side. She was 60.

Born on February 15, 1952 in Troy, to John T. and Mae (Fisher) Hemmings. She is the wife of Richard T. Simmons, whom she married on May 27, 2005.

Sheila was a clerk for Stewarts' in Lansingburgh and also worked at Shop N Save in Schaghticoke. In her earlier years, she was a cosmetologist and hairdresser. She was also a member of the Melrose Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and watching NASCAR.

Survivors in addition to her husband Richard include their children Tony (Yvonne) Simmons and Brandy (Brett Blanck) Simmons, both of Melrose, three grandchildren, Kyra Rodriguez, Payge Simmons and Blake T. Simmons, her siblings, Jackie (Sandy) Greinert and Eric T. Hemmings, both of Schaghticoke, nieces and nephews, Candy Greinert, Cindie (Bruce) Bussing and Christine Greinert, great nieces and nephews, Kylin and Logan T. Hemmings, James T., Nathan and Ivan Hemmings as well as Bruce and Olivia Bussing. Sheila also leaves behind a long time friend, MaryAnn Morgan and her canine companion Calli.

Sheila is predeceased by her nephew Jason T. Hemmings.

Relatives and friends may call from 11-1pm on her birthday Friday, February 15 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 State Route 40, Schaghticoke. A memorial service will follow at 1pm with Pastor Clyde McCaskill officiating and the family would like to invite everyone to a reception at Melrose Fire House following the service.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorials to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd Rensselaer, NY 12144 or the Melrose Fire Department, 784 NY Route 40 Melrose, NY 12121.

The family would like to give their thanks to Hospice, Dr. Mastrianni and the staff at the Molly Wilmot Radiation and Oncology Center.
